About

Steady Purse is a personal finance site for people whose income refuses to sit still. Freelancers, gig workers, commission earners, seasonal workers, and anyone who has ever built a careful budget in January and watched it fall apart by March because the money didn’t arrive on schedule.

I started it for a simple reason. Almost every budgeting method quietly assumes a steady paycheck, and that assumption breaks the moment your income swings from a strong month to a lean one. I lived in that gap for a long time. I tried the usual advice and watched it fail every time the number on top changed. The fix, when it finally came, wasn’t a smarter app or more willpower. It was a different structure: a baseline I could always cover, a buffer that soaked up the good months, and a steady wage I paid myself from that buffer. Once that clicked, a slow month stopped being a crisis. Steady Purse exists to hand you that same structure without the years of trial and error it took me to find it.

What this site is

Steady Purse is behavioural money guidance: systems, habits, and the psychology of managing an unpredictable income, written in plain language. It is not financial advice, and it never pretends to know your full situation. What it offers is a way of organising money that holds up when your income doesn’t. Every guide is written and reviewed by a real person, sourced from primary references, and updated when the rules change. You can read exactly how on our editorial policy.

What this site isn’t

You won’t find hot stock tips, get-rich-quick claims, or a lecture to just cut out your morning coffee here. Managing money on an irregular income is hard enough without hollow positivity. When something is genuinely difficult, I’ll say so before offering the fix. And because personal finance is a Your Money or Your Life topic, I stay behavioural on purpose. If getting something wrong could cost you money or trigger a tax or legal consequence, I point you to the right primary source or a qualified professional instead of guessing. The full detail is on our disclaimer.

Who it’s for

If you’ve ever moved money into savings and pulled it back out four days later, or opened your banking app on the 3rd already doing math in your head, this site is for you. The goal is narrow and honest: turn a jagged income line into a calm, plannable one, so the slow months become an inconvenience instead of an emergency.
